CONVENTION CENTRE
ZLÍN, CZECH REPUBLIC

The new Convention Centre accompanies the recently completed University Library for the City of Zlín. The foundations mirror the former school, surrounding the memorial to Tomas Masaryk, a Czech national hero. The new buildings have been designed to respect the site, introducing 21st century architecture whist harmonising with the traditional landscape of Zlín, the birthplace of Modernism. The Convention Centre will consist of two levels of underground parking, a main auditorium seating 850 with a smaller on efor 80 seats, there levels of associated facilities and restaurant for 150 diners.
The external glazé facade is a response to the micro environment. With the North Western elevation facing a busy main road, a secondary series of acoustic screens consiting of glass and concrete act as a baffle, whist the remaining facade consist of external solar louvres. The roof has an exo-skeleton containing the environmental lpant, this being convered in a fine stressed stainless steel mesh which allows both ventil and screening as it be observed from above. From the beginning the year 2011 will be there home place of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the famous orchestra in Czech Republic.
