Harmonia Moraviae 2011
Harmonia Moraviae 2011 - 9th Annual International Music Festival
In addition to the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra's series of subscription concerts, this music festival is one of the exceptional events it hosts as part of the rich cultural life of Zlín. Indeed the Orchestra has a wealth of experience in this field. Since the spring of 1972 it has organized the biennial Talentinum international festival of young concert artists to great professional acclaim. In the past this festival has alternated with our Hudební Jaro concert cycle, which in 1999 focused on sacred music as its main theme. This developed into the Harmonia Moraviae autumn festival of sacred music, bringing these compositions to churches and other places of worship throughout the Zlín region. In 2007 the Harmonia Moraviae festival became an international music event, broadening out from purely sacred into secular music of all genres and stylistic periods. In 2008 the festival's quality and five-year tradition were recognised by its inclusion in the Association of Music Festivals alongside a series of other major Czech festivals including the Prague Spring, the Smetana festival in Litomyšl, and the Janáček festival in Hukvaldy. For several years it has enjoyed the patronage of the Governor of the Zlín Region and the Mayor of the statutory City of Zlín, and since 2008 the Minister of Culture. This international festival is organized jointly by the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, the Zlín regional authorities and the statutory city of Zlín.
