In November 2019 we welcome to Zlín one of the best flamenco guitarists of our time, Carlos Piñana. His playing marries a brilliant instrumental technique with outstanding musical eloquence, poetry and lyricism. Piñana has mesmerised audiences worldwide with his breathtaking virtuosity and dazzling tonal refinement which is unique in the world of flamenco. Audiences have been able to appreciate his exceptional performing skills not only in his solo recitals, but in a number of music ventures in which he combines elements of flamenco with jazz, dance, world music and the symphony orchestra sound.
The charismatic Piñana is also an acclaimed composer whose works intertwine different styles and genres, including fascinating blends of flamenco with classical, liturgical and dance music. With this unorthodox approach he has generated a surprising dialogue between flamenco and other musical styles, giving rise to a distinctive form of musical expression, and has also made his mark on the flamenco genre as a genuinely post-modern composer. He is a master of improvisation, as he shows in his solo instrumental routines and singer accompaniment. His exceptional technique and musicality enable him to express not only the spirit of pure flamenco, but also to forge out in new directions. In short, Carlos Piñana is an artist who takes flamenco to new horizons.
Tonight's unique Flamenco Symphony project also features the Zlín philharmonic orchestra under the baton of the Slovak conductor Mario Košík.
