The year 1972 in Stockholm saw the beginning of one of the most popular bands in the history of music - the Swedish group Abba who, in the space of a mere 13 years, became an icon of international pop and by 2010 had sold some 375 million albums. Now, almost 40 years after the band broke up, they are still riding high in the popularity stakes with even the youngest generation very familiar with hits like Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper and The Winner Takes It All.
Our final Subscription Series C concert presents a selection of the best of ABBA's work with the unique ABBA Symphonic Show which blends the sounds of a symphony orchestra with a rock element, backed up by the professional vocals of Happyband, and all this in fresh arrangements by Michal Jániš with an injection of their own originality instead of sticking slavishly to the original versions, so music-goers can look forward to hearing famous hits like Gimme Gimme Gimme, S.O.S., Money Money Money, Voulez Vous, Chiquitita and many more.
The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted tonight by Vladimír Ďatelinka.
