In February the Zlín Congress Centre welcomes Tomáš Klus, one of the best-known figures on the contemporary Czech music scene. On the basis of his songs, lyrics, compositions and acting he is often hailed as the new Karel Kryl and the direct next-in-line of the Czech song-writing tradition. Klus, who comes from Třinec, defies pigeon-holing in any single genre, and the spiritual and inspirational power of his songs and lyrics together with his natural sincerity and authenticity have made him one of the most popular figures in Czech music across the generations.
Klus, a former winner of the CzechTalent competition for singers and the holder of several Anděl and Czech Nightingale awards, is an artist with many strings to his bow. Able to write appealing music with a profound and engaging lyric, and also perform them in his own inimitable style, he also radiates an incredibly energetic stage presence for which he is legendary.
Klus demonstrated his talent for sport from a young age, winning a gold medal in modern pentathlon at the 2002 youth European championships, and a flair for the acting profession. A graduate in drama from the Prague Academy of Performing Arts, he has appeared in several films and TV series, in particular the popular Tajemství staré bambitky and Tři bratři, and also supports a whole series of charitable causes.
The unique atmosphere of his concert tonight with the band Cílová skupina and the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra featuring his greatest hits will surely be a musical experience not to be missed.
