When it comes to the oboe, Vilém Veverka is the first name that springs to mind. A world renowned performer, he has begun experimenting more and more often with other music styles.
In tonight's performance, the TRIOplus' unconventional line-up of oboe, piano, double bass and percussion is joined by three top-class musicians. They're the pianist and composer Martin Hybler, who has been writing for Veverka since 2005, the best-known Czech double bass player Ondřej Štajnoch, and Tomáš Hobzek on percussion.
"It's all about playing our instruments just for the fun of it," says Veverka, "and treating our audience and ourselves to something you just wouldn't hear in the classical music style. We just need to push the envelope outside the classical framework from time to time and find new scope for our ideas, which then brings us back to understanding what really underpins our shared experience of music."
Their "MY OWN WAY" presentation tonight also features some interesting stage action as they play numbers by Ennio Morricone, Ástor Piazzolla, Vivaldi and Leonard Bernstein, not forgetting pieces by Vilém Veverka's own associate composer Martin Hybler.
