Vojtěch Spurný | piano, conductor and presenter
Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K.550
This concert, the last in this series, promises a truly extraordinary experience as Vojtěch Spurný performs the triple role of conductor, pianist and host for the evening with the Zlín Philharmonic Orchestra engaging with the audience in a programme based on the "immersive" concept, a unique type of production which does away with the conventional separation of artists and audience. The audience is thus positioned among the orchestra itself almost within arm's reach of the musicians, enabling them to experience the music in a completely new way directly within the group of performers, making them an integral part of the performance with the opportunity to be directly involved.
In the music for this unconventional evening, Mozart's penultimate symphony written in 1788, the conductor provides the musical lead for the orchestra and guides us through the entire evening through the spoken word. In Vojtěch Spurný's trademark style, we can expect a highly informative deep dive that naturally draws the listener into the world of Mozart's music, as he reveals the intrinsic structure and qualities of the work. But listen out too for some rather subtle cultural connections, such as why the main theme of the symphony's first movement came to be used as a mobile phone ringtone.
