Lotrando and Zubejda (1997). Screening of the film fairy tale directed by Karel Smyczek with live musical accompaniment.
In keeping with our Advent tradition the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra once again takes everyone, young and old, to the world of Czech fairy tales, this time to the forests of the Bohemian Basin, to places where robbers, led by the terrible Lotrando, lie in wait in the thickets for travellers. However, the world is small and anything can happen, so Lotrando meets the woodcutter Drnec, and then messengers from Sultan Suleyman, setting off with them on a long journey on which he gradually learns that "work" means different things to different people, and even princesses can be sad without the sun, fresh air and love.
In cooperation with the Soundtrack Poděbrady festival, we are screening the popular film fairy tale Lotrando and Zubejda by director Karel Smyczek and screenwriter Zdeněk Svěrák accompanied by a live orchestra, rendering Jaroslav Uhlíř's engaging music together with the female voices choir from the Kroměříž Teacher-Training College and a line-up of soloists led by Michaela and Roman Tomeš.
