The violinist and vocalist Jitka Šuranská makes no secret of her Moravian roots which are evident in her highly expressive intrinsic performing style. She drawns on older traditional texts and songs accompanying herself on the violin using a loopstation. Her contacts along the way with many excellent musicians bring new dimensions, richness and variety to her output. One of her more recent collaborative projects is with the PaCoRa Slovak jazz trio with Stano Palúch on violin, Marcel Comendant on cimbalom, and Robert Ragan on bass who bring Slovak and Moldavian folk influences to the mix. She has also been working with with the Slovak saxophonist Marek Pastírik, another distinctive musician with a very broad musical spectrum. In 2013 Jitka Šuranská teamed up with these musicians to produce her first solo CD, which won her an Anděl Czech music award. Those who know her will be aware that Jitka also plays in the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra.
