The original work of Jiří Pavlica can be viewed not only as the work of a musician, but also as that of a philosopher or writer for whom the sense and meaning of the work is no less important than its artistic expression. His musical pictures connect folk and classical music, the past and the present. Bringing together the music of different peoples, faiths and spiritual paths, Pavlica's work is a medium for dialogue between the temporal and the spiritual planes. The principle of dialogue and building bridges between ostensibly discrete worlds is one of the characteristic features of of Pavlica's musical language, and this is no less the case with his new work Moravian Dances. Its genesis lies in the folk dance idiom of the different regions of Moravia, with historical musical references and even fictional narrative on the Great Moravian empire. Dance, as we know, has been intrinsic to humankind from time immemorial. Whether in its original association primarily with ceremonial culture or subsequently as mere entertainment, it has always been a means of expressing emotions. Tonight the Moravian Dances orchestral suite receives its world premiere in Zlín with the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, followed in the second half of the concert by sounds from the repertoire of Hradišťan, again with the orchestra.
