The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic has a tradition of presenting concerts of film music, and tonight we present tracks from the widely acclaimed films of the Slovak director Juraj Jakubisko.

Some of these melodies are by Petr Hapka who, besides writing memorable songs for Hana Hegerová, Lucie Bílá and others, also wrote music for Jakubisko's much-loved tale Perinbaba and for the film Tisícročná včela, which was one of the high points of Jakubisko's directing and of Slovak cinema overall.

Ondřej Soukup and Jan Jirásek were jointly responsible for the musical element of of the film Nejasná zpráva o konci světa. Jan Jirásek also composed the music for the internationally co-produced film Bathory, which was shot in dramatic circumstances in 2006 resulting in much controversy and debate. Further evidence of Jirásek's outstanding work is the film Kytice, for which he received a Czech Lion award in 2000. The concert tonight is conducted by Leoš Svárovský, chief guest conductor of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra.
