Currently the front-ranking Czech cellist, Jiří Bárta has given solo performances at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Bridgewater Hall, the Buenos Aires Teatro Colon, the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, the Dublin Concert Hall, the Edinburgh Queen's Hall, L'Auditorio in Barcelona and other major venues. His recordings for Supraphon have been acclaimed on two occasions by the magazine 'Harmonie' as the best in their categories. He has made critically-acclaimed recordings of all the Bach cello suites and Shostakovich concertos conducted by Maxim Shostakovic with the Prague Symphony Orchestra, plus both the Dvořák concertos. Bárta's recording of Kodály's solo sonata was selected as the "Editor's Choice" by the London magazine 'The Gramophone'. The same accolade was given to his latest CD of cello concertos by Bohuslav Martinů, Josef Foerster and Jan Novák recorded with the PKF-Prague Philharmonia and the conductor Jakub Hrůša.
He will be accompanied on the piano by Terezie Fialová, a chamber music accompanist much in demand with many leading Czech and foreign soloists.
