TOMÁŠ BRAUNER, conductor

Our Series C opening concert entitled Parlo d´amor (I Speak of Love) sees the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra accompanying the mezzo-soprano Markéta Cukrová, a truly unique phenomenon in Czech vocal music. An outstanding singer and holder of a huge number of multifarious artistic awards, she stands out for her amazing performing versatility, consummate technique and remarkable sense of musical expression and style. She is in great demand as a singer of music from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, and a frequent guest with performers both here and around Europe. A native of Prague, she works regularly with Czech Television and Czech Radio, has made recordings for Polish, French and Italian radio, and given solo performances not only in Europe, but in Japan, Russia, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and the USA.

Our October Mozart-Rossini evening will showcase Markéta Cukrová's unique vocal mastery and charming spontaneity. The first half presents overtures and arias from Mozart's operas The Marriage of Figaro and La Clemenza di Tito, and later we hear excerpts from well-known works by the illustrious Italian composer and bon vivant Gioacchino Rossini.

The concert, which promises to be an exceptional cultural experience, is directed by the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra's Chief Conductor Tomáš Brauner.
