It's 30th April 1946 at the Velke kino cinema hall and the newly founded Baťa National Enterprise Symphony Orchestra introduces itself to the public for the very first time with its first public concert after almost a month of intensive rehearsal. That concert consisted of works by the quintessentially Czech composers Dvořák, Smetana and Fibich, and the enthusiasm generated by that successful performance showed that Zlín also had a considerable number of classical music fans and could sustain its own symphony orchestra capable of performing major orchestral works on a regular basis. The history of the orchestra, which since January 1989 has been called the Bohuslav Martinů Symphony Orchestra, therefore dates back 75 years and this anniversary is being marked with a special concert in April also featuring the South African soprano Pretty Yende.

This charismatic and most highly acclaimed singer with an exceptional voice brought the house down at her triumphant debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera, since when she has graced the most prestigious stages all over the world, and it is therefore no surprise that both the critics and the public describe her as a jewel in the crown of contemporary world classical music. She will be singing arias from world-famous operas, interspersed with instrumental pieces.

At the podium for this 75th anniversary concert is the Orchestra's Chief Conductor Tomáš Brauner.
