Congress Centre Début

The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra makes its début at the Congress Centre in Zlín on 14th January 2011 at 7.00 p.m. with a concert starring the Mexican tenor David Lomeli.
He is joined by the Slovak soprano Eva Hornyáková in a concert featuring arias by Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini and others, accompanied by the Orchestra under its Chief Conductor Stanislav Vavřínek.
The beauty and sonority of his voice have brought Mexican tenor David Lomeli considerable recognition of late as one of the younger generation of talented opera singers. He was the first Mexican performer to take First Prize in Placido Domingo's "Operalia" competition in 2006, winning both the Opera and Zarzuela categories - an achievement previously unmatched by any other singer.
Contracts already in place for this still young tenor include appearances at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Sante Fe Opera, the Canadian Opera Company, the Houston Grand Opera and further opera roles in Cologne and Frankfurt. Only recently he stepped in at the last moment to replace the renowned tenor Rolando Villazón at the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico City at a gala concert to mark the 10th anniversary of SIVAM (Sociedad Internacional de Valores de Arte Mexicano), Mexico's most prestigious development programme for young artists.
David Lomeli studied at the Accademia de Perfezionamento per Cantanti Lirici alla Scala, and has worked with such distinguished musicians as Plácido Domingo, James Conlon, Bruno Rigacci, Gustavo Dudamel, Mignon Dunn, Denise Massé, Joan Dornemann, and César Ulloa. He has also won the Plácido Domingo and Pepita Serrano scholarships. In addition to playing Alfredo in La Traviata, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, and Rodolfo in La Bohème, Lomeli's repertoire includes the role of Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, the title role in Gounod's Faust, Macduff in Macbeth, and the Duke in Rigoletto.
