This concert again showcases the solo talents of the Philharmonic's own musicians, with Aleš Pavlorek, our principal clarinettist, presenting another new composition of his own - orchestral variations bearing the motto "battles in life are not always won by the strongest or the quickest; sooner or later they are won by he one who believes he will". We will also hear the interpretational skills of concert master Pavel Mikeska and assistant cello concert master Karolína Zívalíková, who will perform Brahms' wonderful A-minor Double Concerto for violin and cello, the composer's last symphonic work. The climax of the concert is the Seventh Symphony by Antonín Dvořák, a good friend of Brahms. The drama of this work combined with its brooding atmosphere gives it a special place in Dvořák's symphonic output, and its sheer perfection ranks it among the best of any symphonies. With this work, which was commissioned by the London Philharmonic Society in 1884, Dvořák decided to create a symphony which would "move the world". The conductor Tomáš Brauner is chief conductor of the Plzeň Philharmonic, and principal guest conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.
