Hof-Musici ("Court Musicians") are a group who specialise in the performance of Baroque music using period instruments. The core of their repertoire is the work of the Neopolitan and Venetian composers of the 16th and 17th centuries played in the former Habsburg monarchy countries. Deserving of particular mention is their highly commendable work in rediscovering forgotten compositions in various European musical archives which they then premiere for modern audiences. Hof-Musici, whose origins date back to 1991, soon established themselves as one of the most important performers of period music in the country, appearing regularly in major concerts and festivals at home and abroad, such as the Prague Spring, France's Printemps des Arts in Nantes, the Venetian Feste Musicali per San Rocco Festival Galuppi, the Internationale Händel-Festspiele in Göttingen, Belgium's Baroque à Saint-Roch in Liège, Handel Festival Japan in Tokyo and many more. Although the group's main interest is in Baroque opera performance, they also play a considerable amount of chamber music. This programme entitled Cantate Napoletane consists of works from archives and libraries in Vienna, Venice, Naples, London and elsewhere, and in tonight's Hof-Musici performance they are being heard for the very first time. The founder and artistic director is the harpsichordist and musicologist Ondřej Macek, who specialises in researching and performing Baroque music.
