TOUR OF SOUTH KOREA 2017

TOUR OF SOUTH KOREA 2017

The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra returned from the Republic of Korea on Monday evening, 13th November 2017, after a very successful tour which received considerable financial support from the City of Zlín and the Zlín Region.

The Orchestra performed in large, impressive concert venues in the five Korean cities of Seoul, Icheon, Busan, Je-ju and Ulsan showcasing mainly Czech music, including Smetana's Vltava and Dvořák's New World Symphony, plus a Rachmaninov piano concerto and the Glazunov violin concerto, with its Principal Guest Conductor Leoš Svárovský at the podium for all the concerts. The tour culminated in Ulsan, where the orchestra's magnificent performance received rapturous applause from a packed house of 1,600 concert-goers. The whole tour - five concerts in five days in five different Korean cities, all attended by the Czech Ambassador to South Korea Tomáš Husák - presented a host of challenges, and after the final concert the Ambassador thanked the Orchestra for representing the Czech Republic so outstandingly in Korea. The Czech Centre in Seoul also played its part by organising banners and photograph displays before the concerts in Busan and Ulsan highlighting some of the most interesting sights in Zlín and the surrounding region. A performance of some of our region's best-known folk songs by six of the Orchestra's musicians rounded off this excellent publicity for our city and region.
