HARMONIA MORAVIAE 2023 21st INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

HARMONIA MORAVIAE 2023 21st INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

The festival’s 21st season comprising 11 concerts takes place between 21. 9 – 2. 11. 2023, with thematic presentations giving a foretaste of what is to come in celebrating the Year of Czech Music in 2024.

This festival is organised by the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra and supported by the Czech Ministry of Culture, the statutory City of Zlín and the Zlín regional authority.

It presents concerts of an exceptionally high standard with top-notch conductors, outstanding soloists and musicians for a broad spectrum of the music-going public. The festival’s 21st season comprising 11 concerts takes place between 21. 9 – 2. 11. 2023, with thematic presentations giving a foretaste of what is to come in celebrating the Year of Czech Music in 2024.

The central theme of the festival reflects the century-long links of  Czech music and culture with those of Europe as a whole, demonstrating that Czech music has never been an island unto itself in the heart of Europe. Indeed, it has always been a melting pot of active contacts with the musical world around it. The concerts are individually themed around the music of European localities and Czech composers who worked in those places and thus influenced the musical life there, a nd some programmes reflect the way that European musical and wider cultural movements made their mark on Czech musical life. The festival at this notional interface of Czech and European music presents music not only on the orchestral scale, but also chamber and vocal music, with a range of styles from sacred to folk, film and jazz.
