Karel Vrtiška, piano

Karel Vrtiška (1990), one of the generation of promising young Czech pianists, completed his Masters studies under Martin Kasík in 2015 at the AMU Academy of Music in Prague, following Masters studies completed three years earlier on a merit scholarship at the Hochschule für Musik in Nuremberg under Professor W. Manze.
He has performed as a soloist with conductors Paul Freeman, Libor Pešek, Vlastimil Mareš, Chuhei Iwasaki, Jaroslav Kyzlink, Peter Vrábel and Koji Kawamoto, and with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the Berg Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the Academic Chamber Soloists and the Olomouc-based Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has recorded for Czech TV and the BBC, and has been working with Czech Radio for a long time. In international piano competititions he has regularly featured in the top few places.

Tonight he will be playing works form the Classical and Romantic repertoire. Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Paganini, which present the pianist with a number of technical challenges, are also a magnificent display of the composer's creative imagination. Franz Liszt's rhapsody is a picture of Spain brimming over with that country's vitality and dance rhythms, extreme virtuosity and delightful melodies.
