Conductor: Michael Roháč

Father Nature and his three mischievous sons Pankrác, Servác a Bonifác get into an argument about what the most important thing is in the natural world. With the help of the conductor's magic wand they conjure up the four elements - fire, water, earth and air - to ask them what they think. But will it be Mother Nature who has the last word? Helping to tell this tale are pieces from well-known composers such as Beethoven, Smetana and Rossini, and pictures painted by Eva Marková.

The leading role is played by Rostislav Marek, the Zlín Theatre Company actor, who talks us through the whole performance and tells us about the musical excerpts in which we'll hear the sounds of a storm, birdsong, the hunt and other features we associate with the different seasons of the year.

Also performing for us this afternoon are the violinist and singer Jitka Šuranská and other members of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra.

Our conductor, Michael Roháč, was born of Czech parents living in Canada. He later returned to Europe and the Czech Republic to continue his studies in conducting in a number of master musicianship courses. He also spent seven years as Chief Conductor of the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra based in Mariánské Lázně.
