BOHUSLAV MARTINŮ PHILHARMONIC
Conductor: VOJTĚCH SPURNÝ

Can any of our older listeners or orchestra players remember how our orchestra began and the initial teething troubles it had before blossoming into the pride and joy that it is today? It is almost 70 years ago to the day that our first concert took place on 30.04.1946, so we are celebrating the past decades and some of our milestones with a trip down memory lane. Previous anniversary concerts have featured outstanding soloists such as the French cellist Pierre Fournier performing the Dvořák concerto, the violinist Vadim Repin at the tender age of 15, Jan Simon playing the Tchaikovsky B-flat minor piano concerto, and the opera soprano Eva Urbanová in recital. But these concerts have always featured pieces by Czech composers too, so we are honouring this tradition with these works by František Škroup and Antonín Dvořák. Our invited soloist is the unique Turkish pianist Fazil Say, who is also a notable composer.
